According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick appears to be gradually moving past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

During his latest media appearance, the German coach avoided answering questions about his veteran goalkeeper, instead steering the conversation toward new signing Joan Garcia, calling him “the club’s bet.”

Ter Stegen’s situation has become one of the main talking points at Barcelona this summer. Despite being under contract for three more seasons, the German goalkeeper’s future looks uncertain.

This is because Barça have already signed Joan Garcia and are also counting on Wojciech Szczesny to be the second choice next season. However, Ter Stegen has not indicated any intention to leave the club.

Flick dodges Ter Stegen questions

There has been much speculation about Ter Stegen’s role under Flick, but until now, no one from the club’s leadership had openly addressed the issue.

That changed when Flick finally spoke, though carefully. In an informal chat with journalists, Flick linked the goalkeeping situation to Barcelona’s financial struggles.

Before directly mentioning Ter Stegen, Flick discussed the transfer market in general terms, acknowledging the club’s delicate economic reality.

When the subject of Ter Stegen came up specifically, Flick quickly redirected the conversation toward Joan García, emphasising that the important thing now is to talk about Joan.

Later, when asked about injured players like Marc Bernal, Ter Stegen, and Gerard Martin, Flick chose to respond only about the two youth players, avoiding any comment on Ter Stegen’s future.

This silence has raised further questions about whether Barça are quietly preparing for a future without their long-time goalkeeper.

For now, it seems clear that Hansi Flick is shifting the spotlight onto Joan García, signalling a new chapter in Barcelona’s goalkeeping plans, while Ter Stegen’s role remains shrouded in uncertainty.
