Just more than half a year since his arrival at FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick has already exceeded the expectations of most Blaugrana fans with the way he has got his team playing.
Under his watch, the Catalans are top-placed in La Liga, are in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League, in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, and have already won the Spanish Super Cup. In fact, Barcelona have won 27 of their 37 games played this season, thus recording a winning record of 73%.
However, as SPORT has noted, these wins have come in two quite distinct ways, as the Blaugranes have either mercilessly thrashed their rivals at times, while at other times they have had to get a narrow win by the sweat of their brows.
In the last two league games played at the Montjuic, the Catalans were able to win with only a single-goal margin, but in between these two games, Hansi Flick’s team was able to thrash Valencia (5-0) and Sevilla (1-4) on the road.
In 17 of their 27 total wins this season, Barcelona have won by a convincing margin of at least three goals. But in 8 other wins, the Blaugranes have won only by the barest margin of a single goal.
There were some brilliant performances in the second category as well, most notable of them being in the games against Borussia Dortmund (2-3) and Benfica (4-5). While in other games, like against Getafe (1-0) and Rayo Vallecano (1-0), they had to grind out a result.
In fact, the first three games of Flick’s tenure at Barcelona, against Valencia, Athletic Club, and Rayo Vallecano, were all wins with a single-goal margin. But the fourth game was the 7-0 drubbing of Real Valladolid, establishing the two distinct trends in which the Blaugranes were going to win in the coming months.
