FC Barcelona have been in scintillating form since the start of the calendar year and they are the only unbeaten club so far in Europe since the start of 2025. Hansi Flick has managed his resources exceedingly well and they are placed very well in all competitions.
The German coach has done a very good job with a very young squad and the team has played an exceptionally attractive brand of football thus far. This was on full display against Benfica midweek as Barcelona progressed to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Now, as per Diario AS, Hansi Flick has the opportunity to equal former coach Xavi Hernandez’s record of the longest unbeaten run during his tenure at Barcelona. The Spaniard managed to go 18 matches unbeaten in the 2022/23 season and Flick’s team currently stands at 17.
Since the start of 2025, Flick’s team remains unbeaten and has been in excellent form. Given their current momentum, they have a strong chance of equaling Xavi’s record, even with a challenging La Liga clash against Atlético Madrid up next.
Incidentally, the last time Barcelona lost a game of football was all the way back in December, to Atletico Madrid – a late 2-1 defeat at the Montjuic. It was a game in which Hansi Flick’s men played some incredible football and yet came away without the three points.
Xavi’s 18-match winning run started against Valencia in October 2022 and ended in a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford that knocked them out of the Europa League. Barcelona were eventually knocked out by the English side from the competition that year.
Either way, both Xavi back then and Hansi Flick currently are far away from the all-time Barcelona record set by Luis Enrique, whose side managed to go a whopping 39 games unbeaten in the 2015/16 season with 32 wins and 7 draws.
Of course, the Spaniard had with him arguably the best attacking trio at club level in their prime years and who knows, maybe Hansi Flick’s team could go on a similar run and try and break the record set by the now-PSG coach in the future.
