Hansi Flick appears to be moving closer to the Barcelona job with each passing day, as the management looks to finalise who is going to lead the team from the touchline next season.

It has been well established that Barcelona will not continue with Xavi Hernandez, who has been informed of the board’s decision to sack him at the end of the season.

Hansi Flick has emerged as the ideal replacement for Xavi. Even though Barcelona were also contemplating the option of Rafa Marquez, the board prefers Flick due to his experience.

Flick to sign a 1+1 contract

A fresh report from Mundo Deportivo has offered more light on Hansi Flick’s situation at FC Barcelona.

It appears the German tactician will sign a one-year contract with the Blaugrana, with an optional clause to extend it for a further year.

Should Flick continue for another year at Barça, the end of his term will coincide with the end of Joan Laporta’s mandate at Barcelona.

This suggests that the appointment of Flick could be one of Laporta’s last manoeuvres as he looks to drag Barcelona out of the economic and sporting mess.

This update also comes on the back of a reported call between Flick and sporting director Deco, presumably over the German’s appointment at Barcelona this summer.

What’s next for Xavi?

The report adds that Barcelona have yet to summon Xavi Hernandez for a meeting but maintains their stance.

As such, the Spaniard looks all set to leave Camp Nou at the end of the season and will be available as a free agent in the summer.

Xavi was approached by a South Korean team for a long-term project. But the Barcelona coac turned down the offer.
