The controversy surrounding Marc-Andre ter Stegen has reached fever pitch, with the relationship between him and Barcelona reportedly at rock bottom currently.

This comes on the back of recent controversy surrounding Ter Stegen announcing he will be out for three months due to surgery.

The announcement didn’t sit well with Barcelona, who are hoping to utilise a part of the German’s salary to register new signing Joan Garcia. But Barcelona cannot utilise the said salary if the player is not ruled out for at least four months.

Although Barcelona remain confident that Ter Stegen will be ruled out for at least four to five months, the club are staring at a potential war with their club captain.

Hansi Flick wants to avoid all the drama

As Barcelona battle it out with ter Stegen, coach Hansi Flick is having none of it and has sidelined himself from all the drama.

This is according to SPORT, which suggests Flick is making a conscious effort to stay out of the registration process and has left all decisions in the hands of the club and sporting director Deco.

While Joan Garcia wore the No. 1 shirt during Barça’s friendly against Vissel Kobe, Flick clarified post-match that this was just for the Asia tour.

Privately, the German coach is said to have had a conversation with Ter Stegen, but does not expect to count on him for the foreseeable future. Yet, he maintains full respect for the goalkeeper’s contributions since 2014.

The 60-year-old tactician also knows that the goalkeeper is not going through a good moment after having suffered a relapse of his back injury.

It must be noted that Flick and Ter Stegen have worked together in the past for the German national team. As such, he continues to respect him immensely despite not counting on him, and hopes that his compatriot has a smooth exit from Barcelona whenever he leaves.
