Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Tuesday provided an insight into the recent shake-up in his midfield ranks.

The last month or so has of course seen Frenkie de Jong reestablish himself as a key component of the engine room setup in Catalunya’s capital.

The Dutchman, having seemingly put his injury problems firmly behind him, has rediscovered some of his very best form.

With an uptick in game time for one Blaugrana star, though, comes a downturn in minutes for another.

Marc Casadó has found himself as the odd man out in Barca’s midfield of late, a harsh development on the back of what was a brilliant first half to the season on the part of the 21-year-old.

Speaking in the aftermath of his side’s victory over Rayo Vallecano on Monday – a game in which De Jong was again preferred to Casadó – Hansi Flick was therefore drawn on the situation once more.

The German, though, made use of the opportunity to play down the significance of the recent change, assuring:

“He (Casadó) hasn’t done anything wrong. I talk to him. Right now, Frenkie is doing very well and is in good form. Giving more playing time to one doesn’t mean the other isn’t performing well.”
