Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick put a halt to the potential departures of three members of his squad during the summer transfer window.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Ansu Fati, Iñigo Martínez and Eric García as the trio in question.

All of winger Ansu and defenders Iñigo and Eric were of course hotly tipped to bring a close to their respective stints in Barcelona colours ahead of the new season.

At different points, the departures of one or more, in fact, looked a near certainty.

Upon the transfer deadline coming and going, however, all three remained very much Barcelona players.

And, according to the aforementioned Marca, this came at the direct request of new Blaugrana headmaster Hansi Flick.

In the case of Ansu, the lack of reinforcements to Barca’s ranks out wide, accompanied by Flick’s faith in the talents of the 21-year-old, proved decisive.

The injury problems at the heart of defence in Catalunya’s capital, meanwhile, saw the German tactician inform Deco and co. that he would be depending on both Iñigo and Eric for the months ahead.

Additionally, the latter’s ability to line out in a pivot role in midfield is also highly appreciated by boss Flick.
