As the season approaches its six-month mark, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick takes a moment to reflect on his journey so far, as it is a significant point in time for drawing conclusions, especially after facing one of the biggest challenges of his career.

Taking on the responsibility at Barcelona, Flick has managed to approach the task with a combination of caution and confidence.

In a detailed interview with Barça One, Flick opened up about his experiences within the dressing room, his methods, and his observations.

One of the first things he noticed about his squad was the incredible talent and youthful energy of the players. He was especially impressed by their relentless drive and hunger for success.

Flick shared that his approach to communication with the players varies depending on the situation.

What stood out to him the most, however, was the open dialogue he now has with the players. He noted that the team has developed a strong level of trust, where players feel confident to approach him and his coaching staff.

“Sometimes we talk to one player and sometimes to the whole team. It depends on what our objective is. I also like that, now, the players have the confidence to come and talk to us,” he began saying.

Flick is impressed with the connection

Another aspect that surprised Flick was the remarkable bond between the players on and off the field. He expressed his admiration for the strong connection and camaraderie that exists within the squad.

“What impresses me the most and I like the most is the connection that all these players have.

“They have a really good connection and a good atmosphere with each other, and that’s really what I love. So does his mentality. They love to play football.”

A competitive bunch

Since his arrival, training sessions have become a vital part of Flick’s approach. The German coach places great importance on discipline, with punctuality and consistency being non-negotiable.

The players are constantly challenged to bring their best to every session, and Flick has noticed that they thrive on competition and he believes that competition is integral to a footballer’s development and overall success.

For Flick, the spirit of competition is not just a philosophy but a necessity for achieving greatness at Barcelona.

“They love to compete with each other and that’s great. His whole life is a competition. It’s part of being a footballer, and I like to see this. They must also offer their quality to the team and that’s what helps us win games,” he added.
