Hansi Flick has said that he is not concerned by Alphonso Davies’ early-season dip in form for Bayern Munich.
The Canadian starlet had an incredible campaign last term, nailing down the left-back spot as the Bavarians claimed a magnificent treble.
However, the 19-year-old has struggled to maintain those standards so far this season, and seems to have fallen below Lucas Hernandez in the pecking order for the defensive position.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League date with Atlético Madrid, Bayern manager Flick backed Davies to come out of his slump.
“Alphonso Davies may have had a little low,” he told reporters.
“But with his speed and dynamism he is an important factor. It is therefore important that he get back on track. Today in training it was very good again.”
The Bayern boss added that it is common for such young stars to fail to produce prolonged consistency.
“It’s also a bit normal for such a young player after such a strong season,” Flick said.
Davies was a substitute for Saturday’s 4-1 Bundesliga win at Arminia Bielefeld, only replacing Hernandez in the final moments of the game.
