The last two weeks have been rather light for FC Barcelona as they did not have to play a mid-week game. This was unlike their main rivals in the domestic league, as they saw Real Madrid play a difficult set of games against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League play-off round.
Meanwhile, the Blaugranes advanced directly to the Round of 16 as a reward for their strong performance in the League Phase, which they finished in second place.
However, the upcoming days are going to be more hectic, as following their La Liga clash against Las Palmas on Saturday, they will be playing in another intense game, against Atletico Madrid, in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final on Tuesday.
After that, they will face Real Sociedad at the Montjuic, before restarting their UCL campaign with a match against either Benfica or Paris Saint Germain.
Between the two legs of the UCL Round of 16, there is a league match against Osasuna, again at Montjuic. After the second leg of the UCL tie, the Catalans will once again face Atletico Madrid, this time in La Liga, before the international break starts.
Thus, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona team has quite a full schedule ahead of them, and as SPORT has noted, this situation might force the German tactician to rotate some of his players for the upcoming game against Las Palmas, especially as the hosts for this game are not going through a very good run of form.
Some of these changes are expected to take place in the midfield. Dani Olmo, who is now back to 100%, and Marc Casado can make their returns to the starting line-up for this game. Meanwhile, Ferran Torres, who has had only 10 minutes in the last two games, can also get a spot in the forward line.
In the backline, Jules Kounde got a rest in the last game, albeit as a punishment, and for the next game, Alejandro Balde, who has started the last eight consecutive games, can get a rest, with Gerard Martin taking his place on the left-back position.
Hopefully, these changes will not cost the team too much, as the Blaugranes are tied with Real Madrid at the top of the league table and are only one point ahead of Atletico Madrid.
