Hansi Flick makes final decision on Szczęsny vs Ter Stegen debate for remainder of season | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has come to a definitive decision on the goalkeeper situation in his squad through the summer.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have confirmed that Marc-André ter Stegen will need to wait for next season to again stake his claim for a starting berth.

Shot-stopper Ter Stegen’s name has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the course of the last couple of weeks.

This comes after the German international, sidelined since all the way back in September owing to a serious knee injury, took a significant step back towards a return to the pitch.

Ter Stegen has now rejoined group training alongside the rest of Hansi Flick’s squad at The Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

Taking as much into consideration, it is now looking increasingly likely that the German will be back available for selection before the season is out.

Such a situation would leave Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick in something of a pickle, with Ter Stegen his true no.1, but Wojciech Szczęsny shining in the 32-year-old’s absence.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, however, then no goalkeeper debate will even be entertained.

As per a report from Sport:

‘Barça coach Hansi Flick does not want any internal or external debate and his idea is to keep the Pole in goal unless he is injured or there is an absolute debacle in his performance, something that does not seem to be happening.’
