Before the game, the German coach attended a mandatory press conference where he addressed various topics. Among them, he spoke about Eric Garcia’s future, which has been a prominent topic in recent news.

As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick revealed that he values the 23-year-old Barcelona defender and does not anticipate his departure in January. However, he acknowledged that anything could happen. The German coach stated:

“I don’t think so, but I don’t know what will happen. In our plans, he is a good player for us. The issue is that he was injured at the end of last season, but he is a very intelligent player who can play in different positions, always focused and very professional. He’s a player we like a lot, and we’re not considering anything about him leaving at the moment.”

From Flick’s words, what is very obvious is that if it were up to him, he would want Eric to stay. Players like the Spaniard might not be flashy to the eye or regular starters but the fact that coaches like Pep Guardiola and Flick speak highly of him must say something.

A successful squad isn’t built solely on superstars. Players like Eric Garcia are crucial for providing cover and valuable squad depth. His versatility to play in multiple positions only strengthens his case further.

Ideally, if not for financial constraints, Barcelona should retain Eric. He has the potential to become the club’s Sergi Roberto for this generation. We’ll have to wait and see whether Flick gets his wish to keep the 23-year-old or if he’s sold in January.
