The pre-season clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid has almost become a ritual in recent years.
Last night, the two teams locked horns at the MetLife Stadium in New York and it was the Blaugrana who walked away with their heads held high.
The team’s second victory in as many games saw new signing Pau Victor shine bright with a brace, but other academy stars including Marc Bernal, Marc Casado and Alex Valle proved their mettle on the night as well.
Speaking to the media after his team’s special win in the pre-season Clasico, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed that he was not fully satisfied with the team’s display on the night.
“The win against Real Madrid? Well, we didn’t press for the whole 90 minutes. This is a problem.”
While the German tactician did not hold back on his constructive criticism, he also made sure to praise his men for the valiant display they put up and for the improved performance.
“We knew it was a Clasico match even though it was pre-season. I told my players that we want to see an improvement on the pitch compared to what was showed against Man City.”
“I believe that is what happened. We did a good job,” he added.
Finally, Flick elaborated on what he expected from his team on the field, especially in terms of pressing for the ball when out of possession.
“In some situations, we collapse too much during the match, and do not put pressure on the rival player who has the ball.”
“This can’t happen. This is a problem. We have to focus on this and press during the whole the match,” he concluded.
