But now he is finally closing in on managing his first game at Barcelona, with pre-season preparations ramping up.

Former La Masia ace could join Flick’s coaching staff

Indeed, according to Adria Albets, there have been ongoing discussions between Hansi Flick and Thiago Alcantara regarding the possibility of Thiago joining the coaching staff at Barcelona.

Just recently, Thiago announced his retirement from football following his departure from Liverpool FC.

Emerging from La Masia and forging a reputation at Bayern Munich, Thiago distinguished himself as one of Flick’s key players during their shared tenure.

Now, the possibility of them reuniting together is on the cards, with Thiago’s incredible game intelligence and familiarity with Flick rendering him a potential candidate to take up a coaching position.

Flick has been known to tailor the team to his preferences, having entirely shaken up the coaching staff and recruiting individuals he is well-acquainted with.

Therefore, Thiago’s potential arrival is a distinct possibility. In addition to simply knowing the coach on a personal basis, the 33-year-old also knows the club inside out.

After all, he came through the academy and plied his trade with the Barcelona first team for four seasons, from 2009 to 2013.

However, nothing has been finalized yet and it remains to be seen if Thiago is open to the possibility of jumping back into the world of football, having just taken his retirement.
