Bayern Munich aren’t worried about contesting the European Super Cup on Thursday night in a ‘coronavirus hotspot’, Hansi Flick has insisted.

Hungary has been declared as a risk area by Germany, although fans are still allowed to travel from Bavaria, should they feel safe enough to do so.

When quizzed about the safety aspect of contesting this fixture in Budapest, Flick wasn’t overly concerned – despite previous comments suggesting otherwise.

“Well, Munich is a [virus] hotspot now too isn’t it?” he responded at his pre-match press conference.

“We came here to play football and the decisions are made elsewhere. The team will be able to focus completely on the game.

“Our goal is to win this title and we know it will be tough but we’re capable of winning this game against a great team who have been elevated to a high level under a great coach.

“But honestly, I’m here as a coach and not a medical expert. I just want the right conditions for my players and that’s all.”

Despite concerns about Robert Lewandowski’s fitness and Javi Martínez seemingly on the brink of departing the club, Flick also insisted both should be available.

“I assume that Lewandowski will be able to complete the training session and everyone else who travelled is fully fit,” he added.

“As for Javi, we have to see how the game goes. I’m planning with him because you can always rely on him 100%.”
