Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into his decision to opt for Fermín López as part of his starting XI to face Borussia Dortmund.
Barcelona are of course currently locked in action, on the continent.
Turning attentions back towards matters in the Champions League, the Blaugrana have welcomed the aforementioned Dortmund to Catalunya’s capital, for a quarter-final first-leg clash.
In the buildup to the fixture, much of the chatter in Barcelona centered on who would fill the attacking midfield role for Wednesday’s hosts.
With Dani Olmo injured, and Gavi fresh off a Man of the Match display against Real Betis over the weekend, the latter was widely tipped to feature from the off once more this evening.
In turn, it came as something of a surprise when, in the end, Hansi Flick opted for Fermín López to fill the space behind Robert Lewandowski.
Speaking to the media ahead of kick-off at Montjuïc, the subject of his selection call was in turn put to Barca’s headmaster himself.
And Flick went on to explain:
“That’s the situation. Fermín has been playing well recently. He’s been good in recent games. We have different options. The players who come off the bench are also important.”
