Hansi Flick confirms Barcelona star was a late scratch from XI to face Real Sociedad | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has revealed that he intended to afford a starting berth to Gavi in the club’s meeting with Real Sociedad.

Barcelona, of course, were back in action earlier today.

With sights on reclaiming their place atop the La Liga table, the Blaugrana played host to the aforementioned Real Sociedad, in a highly-anticipated clash.

When all was said and done, the evening’s hosts emerged dominant victors, by a scoreline of four goals to nil.

Playing no part in his side’s eventual triumph, however, was the aforementioned Gavi.

And an insight into precisely why, as alluded to above, has since been provided by his manager.

Speaking to the media post-match this evening, Hansi Flick confirmed that the plan was for Gavi to feature from the off against Sociedad, only for a bout of fever to rule the youngster out:

“We planned to start Gavi today, but he was feeling unwell. He had a fever, he was very hot. We said it wasn’t worth it for him to play today.”
