Hansi Flick already spoke with Marcus Rashford in May as Barcelona move nears | OneFootball

It has been an eventful day for the Barcelona fanbase and offices as the club are closing in on the signing of Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United.

Just when it seemed like Nico Williams’ rejection had turned the club towards Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, the Rashford option opened up and progressed rapidly over the past 12 hours, only to reach a point of near completion in the evening.

Now, the player’s transfer is all but completed, and his medicals are being planned for early next week. In all reality, however, the rapid progression of talks comes as no surprise.

Flick, Rashford spoke in May

As relayed by SPORT now, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick prefers the option of Rashford over some of the other names the club have been linked with in recent times and even spoke to the Englishman recently.

The contacts between Flick and Rashford were established back at the end of May when the German tactician told the player that he was interested in procuring his services for next season.

In return, the Manchester United star made it clear that he would do whatever it takes to sign for Barcelona, and he has indeed lived up to his words by reducing his wages for the move to work out.

After all, it has been known for a long time now, Rashford has desperately offered himself to Barcelona in recent times and has openly dreamt about linking up with Flick at the Catalan club.

With the player so enthusiastic about closing the move at any cost and rejuvenating his career after being sidelined at Old Trafford, it is no surprise that an agreement was reached within hours after the club seriously reopened his file.

Rashford is expected to travel to Barcelona in the coming day or two and will link up with his new teammates for pre-season. All signs point to him travelling with Flick and Co. to Asia for the upcoming tour.
