Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed he will step down from his position when his current contract expires in autumn 2025.

The news was confirmed in a joint-announcement from the club and Watzke on Monday, in which the 64-year-old said: “I will no longer renew my contract. I will be stepping down from management in the fall of next year.”

It is not yet clear whether Watzke will leave the club entirely, or take up a new management role from 2026 onwards.

Watzke initially worked for the Black and Yellows as treasurer in 2001 before being appointed managing director in February 2005.

In May 2021, he extended his contract until the end of December 2025.
