Hannibal Mejbri seeks more chances at Manchester United after AFCON

Hannibal Mejbri has set his sights on a place in the Manchester United first team.

Like any young player coming through the academy, Mejbri must wait patiently for opportunities. We’ve seen down the years that youngsters get chances at United and it’s a proud part of our history, too.

Mejbri is currently away at the African Cup of Nations with Tunisia and has already become a regular at international level, despite only turning 19-years-old a few days ago.

The next step is getting first team football at United.

However, Ralf Rangnick usually turns to the likes of Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic in the middle. Mejbri may be talented but he has a lot of work to do to compete with Bruno Fernandes, while Donny van de Beek is a squad player who can’t get a look in.

But seeing Anthony Elanga get opportunities and take them should give Mejbri the extra encouragement he needs to develop.

Speaking to Le Parisien, the Tunisia international said (as cited by The Mirror): “When I go back to United [after AFCON], we will see if there will be any changes for me and if I can try to earn a place in the team, in any case, I’ll work hard for it.”

Mejbri is also hoping that his decision to play for Tunisia instead of France at senior level will “influence” youngsters.

“It’s an important chance that will influence a lot of young people,” Mejbri added (via Manchester Evening News). “It’s good to be a source of inspiration and I hope I can influence them and put them on the right path.

“There are many young people of other nationalities who can return to the country of their parents – go back to their roots. I think it’s very important for Africa.”

We would like to wish Mejbri the best for the rest of the AFCON. They face Nigeria in the round-of-16 on Sunday.
