While he admitted that certain aspects were exaggerated, Cavani revealed that the chances of him signing with Boca Juniors were a real possibility.

“The possibility I was going to sign for them [Boca] was real, but I was always clear. What has been said and printed is half true, half lies. Sometimes it’s like that – but the chance was real.”

While his immediate future lies at United, he has refused to rule out a switch to Boca in the future. He has been in conversation with the club’s vice president, Juan Roman Riquelme regarding that for some years now.

“Has the door with Boca been left open? You’d need to ask Boca if the door is open. Today the reality is what it is, I’m at Manchester United and I’m fully focused.”

One was the club’s attitude towards him and the other, his teammates asking him to stay put. The fact that he chose to undertake the greater good speaks volumes about his character as a player.

Cavani’s decision will have gone down well with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was keen to see the player stay. In fact, the duo shares a good relationship.
