Paris Saint-Germain welcomed Toulouse to the Parc des Princes on Saturday and held on to all three points after a 2-1 comeback win.
Scorers: Hakimi 38′, Messi 58′; Van den Boomen 20′
PSG were without notable stars Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Sergio Ramos due to injury and had to dig deep against Toulouse to increase their lead at the top of the table.
At times when the French giants are without some key attackers, they are lifeless in the final third – a theme which continued on Saturday.
With limited creativity threatening the visitors, Toulouse broke the deadlock through their best opportunity when Branco van den Boomen’s free-kick left a flat-footed Gianluigi Donnarumma stunned.
To make matters worse for PSG, they also lost midfielder Renato Sanches to injury, who left the pitch in tears. They could have been down by two goals too, but a second goal from the visitors was ruled offside.
However, just before the break, defender Achraf Hakimi continued his impressive run of form and pulled things level with a stunning long-range strike out of nowhere.
Coming out into the second half, Christophe Galtier’s half-time talk must have been a mouthful as PSG piled on the pressure.
Hakimi would again have a role in the next goal when he cut inside and teed up Lionel Messi. The World Cup winner’s shot from outside the box curled beyond every Toulouse defender to turn things 2-1.
In the dying moments, the hosts pushed for a third but lacked a final touch while Van den Boomen attempted to catch out Donnarumma again, only for the goalkeeper to save a potential equaliser.
The result means PSG have an eight-point lead at the top of the table over Marseille while Toulouse are 12th.
