We weren’t at all clear what Chelsea’s formation would be for tonight’s game against Tottenham given the XI players picked, and to be honest even 15 minutes of play didn’t clear things up totally.
While things were quite fluid in possession, the shape of the team defensively was their standard 3 at the back, with Hakim Ziyech playing at right wing back.
With Reece James out, we’re going to see plenty of players given a chance there. Cesar Azpilicueta is the obvious choice, but as tonight, he’s often needed at centre back.
In games where that’s the case, or those where we need attacking impetus, we may see more of Ziyech or of Pulisic – who has done it a few times this season, but was rested tonight.
We’ve even seen Saul give it a go down the left, although it feels unlikely that will be repeated too often.
Could this be the start of some solid Ziyech at wing back weeks?
