Hagi to Galatasaray debunked but questions remain over Rangers playmaker

As Ibrox Noise effectively told you first, the Ianis Hagi to Galatasaray story was surely a fabrication, simply because you can’t sign an agreement for another team or even discuss it with them while under contract.

The only possibility was Rangers tearing up his deal, and they’re not doing that with a marketable asset they paid £3M for.

And the world’s media appears to have caught up, with a few Twitter accounts calling the Hagi story ‘fake news’ while a Romanian journo has taken to the UK media saying he wouldn’t be shocked if Hagi comes back to Glasgow.

Thing is, Hagi himself has spoken lovingly of Spain, suggesting without too much ambiguity that he wants to stay there, regardless of club, and this is a slightly understandable position given his family’s massive Spanish connection.

It’s also a heck of a better league than the SPL!

But getting back to the point, even though the story to Galatasaray has been essentially debunked, we do know Hagi’s eyes are on a move, and he’d love Spain.

The Romanian journo says Hagi loves Rangers, and the city – we know this is also true, he was extremely well received recently playing for his country by Rangers supporters in a clip which ironically went viral only a day after his saying he wanted to remain in Spain.

He does very much love the club and the city – but his spell at the club hasn’t really gone that well, with injury making it worse.

There is constant talk about him, like with all Romanian and Turkish players (he’s technically both) in their media and that will continue.

Will he go to Galatasaray this summer? Maybe, not impossible, but no deal has been struck to that effect quite simply because it can’t.

Once the transfer window is open, the Istanbul giants, his current loan side Alaves and anyone else interested is free to speak to his agent, but legally-speaking the claims he’s coming back to Rangers are a bit silly because… well… of course he will.

He has to, he’s contracted to us.

It’s whether he remains here, that’s the question.
