Real Madrid have been long-time admirers of Erling Haaland and have been monitoring his progress closely for years now with plans to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu in the near future.
Despite boasting a wealth of attacking talents like Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo Goes, Endrick, and Jude Bellingham, Los Blancos had their sights on the 24-year-old Manchester City striker.
However, any chances of Real Madrid signing Haaland in the immediate future have been blown out of the water.
After all, Haaland has signed a new contract with Manchester City that will keep him at the club for the next 9.5 years, it has been officially confirmed.
While the exact numbers are unknown yet, the deal is being regarded as one of the most lucrative ones in sports history.
Furthermore, any release clauses that were in Haaland’s previous contract have all been removed as part of his new extension which runs until the summer of 2034.
Over the past months, there had been plenty of speculations about Haaland’s future, especially with Man City facing 115 charges of fair play breaches.
Real Madrid were touted to be the most likely destination for the 24-year-old if he were to leave the Etihad.
However, talks of an exit can be put to rest now, with Haaland penning a near decade-long deal with the Premier League champions.
Fabrizio Romano does mention that the centre-forward’s new contract will have a release clause but it will not come into effect until 2029 and will be a huge figure.
As such, the chances of Real Madrid snapping up Haaland in the near future appear to be over, unless something drastic happens.
