Erling Haaland was in phenomenal form as Manchester City made light work of Manchester United in the derby at Old Trafford.

Pep Guardiola’s side moved back up to third in the table and within two points of league leaders Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the Premier League.

The Norwegian broke the deadlock midway through the first half from the penalty spot after referee Paul Tierney had been referred to the pitchside monitor after Rasmus Højlund had pulled Rodri’s shirt in the box.

United struggled to make their way into the game but Scott McTominay forced a stunning save from Ederson with a first-time effort before André Onana produced a wonder save of his own to keep out Haaland’s header from four yards out.

But the United goalkeeper couldn’t do anything to keep out  for his second goal just after half-time after he arrived at the back post to nod home Bernardo Silva’s chipped cross.

Marcus Rashford spurned United’s best chance of the second half flashing wide from close range before Onana came out quick to deny Haaland a hat-trick with a chip.

It was going to be City’s dad as Phil Foden put the game beyond all doubt with 10 minutes to go after taping home from Haaland’s cut-back.

Erik ten Hag’s side fall to their fifth defeat of the campaign while City are unbeaten in three since their defeat to Arsenal earlier this month.

Liverpool ease past Forest

Scorers: Jota 31′, Darwin 35′, Salah 77′.

Liverpool cruised to a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest as the Reds continued their fine run of form at Anfield.

Liverpool welcomed Forest to Anfield having won three of their previous five games and going into this clash knowing that a win would take them above Manchester City.

Steve Cooper’s side were impressive in the opening half an hour as they looked to sit behind the ball and frustrate the home side with a low block.

But Forest were caught out in possession on the half hour mark as Mohamed Salah broke, played in Darwin Nunez, who had his shot saved and Diogo Jota was there to sweep in.

Just moments later things got even better for the hosts as Darwin tapped in after some more fine work by Salah down the right hand side.

Into the second half and the hosts were still pushing for a third as Salah cut in on his left foot but fired an effort over the bar.

It wouldn’t be a game at Anfield without a Salah goal and the Egypt international got it on 77 minutes as he capitalised on a Matt Turner mistake and tapped into an empty net.

Luton outclassed as Villa win again

Scorers: McGinna 17′, Diaby 49′, Lockyer (OG) 63′; Martinez (OG) 83′

Aston Villa showed their class as they beat Luton 3-1 thanks to a brilliant performance from Moussa Diaby.

Unai Emery’s side hosted the Hatters with the knowledge that three points could take them into the top four.

It was all Villa in the opening exchanges as Ollie Watkins went close to opening the scoring after good work from Matty Cash.

And that pressure did pay on 17 minutes as John McGinn scored his second of the season as he latched on to Douglas Luiz’s free kick.

Unai Emery’s side were in complete dominance and ended the half having 13 shots to Luton’s none. Still though, as the teams went in at the break there was only one goal between them.

Into the second half and within moments Villa had got their second. Moussa Diaby found space inside the area and fired in a low drive.

Diaby was crucial once again as Villa got their third. The lightning winger raced in down the right, fired a shot across goal and saw his effort come off Tom Lockyer and into the Luton net.

Luton hadn’t had a shot on target all came but they still managed to pull one back with seven minutes to go as Emi Martinez in the Villa goal but the ball into his own net.

Palhinha stunner earns Fulham draw

Scorers: Ferguson 26′, Palhinha 65′

A stunning second half goal from Joao Palhinha was enough to earn Fulham a 1-1 draw at Brighton.

Robert De Zerbi’s men were full of confidence coming into this clash with Fulham having claimed their first ever European win in midweek.

Brend Leno was the hero for the Cottagers early on as the German goalkeeper kept Brighton at bay with a stunning double save.

Leno could do nothing on 26 minutes however as Evan Ferguson finished with aplomb to hand the Seagulls a lead.

Fulham thought they might have a way back into the game late on in the half but VAR concluded that a penalty should not be given for the potential handball.

After the break Brighton almost got a second as Lewis Dunk curled a free kick over the wall but saw his effort cannon back off the crossbar.

Against the run of play however, Marco Silva’s side got themselves an equaliser as Joao Palhinha lashed one in on the spin.

DCL milestone earns win

Scorers: Calvert-Lewin 51′

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 50th goal in the Premier League was enough to see Everton beat West Ham 1-0 on Sunday.

It was a rain-sodden afternoon in east London as West Ham hosted Everton with the Hammers handing Mohammed Kudus his first Premier League start.

The first real chance of the game came on 23 minutes as Paqueta played in Jarrod Bowen but the England international snatched at his shot which went wide of Jordan Pickford’s post.

After a slow start, the game turned fractious on the half hour mark as James Tarkowski tackled Kudus with the subsequent brawl seeing both Pickford and the Ghana international get booked.

Into the second half and David Moyes had clearly put a rocket up the hosts as they flew out of the blocks and almost scored through Vladimir Coufal’s header.

Completely against the run of play though, Everton went ahead. Dominic Calvert-Lewin found some space on the edge of the area and fired in a low effort.

The Toffees then should have doubled their lead on the hour but Abdoulaye Doucoure’s effort was saved brilliantly by Alphonse Areola.

West Ham pushed for an equaliser but Pickford pulled off a brilliant save late on from Said Benrahma’s volley.
