Gyökeres overtakes Salah in Golden Boot Race

The race for the European Golden Boot took another twist on Sunday, as Sporting's Viktor Gyökeres overtook Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

After smashing in four goals against Boavista, Sporting’s No.9 has now bagged 38 league goals – enough to leapfrog Salah in the Golden Boot race.

As we explained last week (article), over in Portugal, each goal is worth 1.5 points, putting the Swede on 57 points.

Salah’s still hot on his heels, though. The Egyptian has 28 goals in the Premier League, and with each goal worth two points in England, that puts him on 56 points.

The former Coventry striker still has three league games left - against Gil Vicente, Benfica, and Vitória SC - while Salah is set to face Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton, and Crystal Palace, giving the Liverpool star more chances to boost his tally.
