3 players Sheffield United could sign if Gus Hamer leaves for Everton this summer.

Gustavo Hamer could be on his way out of Sheffield United this summer, especially if the Blades fail to gain promotion to the Premier League.

After an incredible season, Hamer was named Championship Player of the Season last week, which was a wonderful accolade to add to his ever-growing list of achievements in English football.

Sheffield United were locked in a fight with both Leeds United and Burnley for the majority of the season, but fell short over the last couple of weeks, which means Chris Wilder's side will have to win the play-offs if they want to get back into the Premier League.

Everton are the latest club named as Hamer's potential next employers, with the Toffees looking to add the 27-year-old to their ranks in the summer. The former Coventry City man is reportedly keen to play top flight football next season, and could head for the exit if United fail to win promotion.

With that in mind, Football League World selected three potential Hamer replacements the Blades should consider if he departs Bramall Lane in the summer.

Alhassan Yusuf

New England Revolution

The first option on this list might be one that Blades supporters aren't familiar with. However, Alhassan Yusuf offers very similar traits to Hamer, which would allow him to grow into the role nicely.

The 24-year-old is currently playing in the MLS with New England Revolution, having joined the club from Royal Antwerp last year, where he made almost a century of appearances.

Having made his first appearances for the Nigerian national team last year, Yusuf has the quality to be a dependable midfielder in the role vacated by the Dutchman.

The Nigerian is a dynamic, ball-winning midfielder with an excellent passing range and ability to press in the middle of the park. All of these attributes are what they could need if Hamer leaves.

Denis Huseinbasic

FC Koln

FC Koln are on the brink of returning to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking, and one of their key players in helping achieve that triumph is Denis Huseinbasic.

The Bosnian has been with the German side since 2022, impressing in the top flight before the Billy Goats were relegated in 2024. However, Huseinbasic has continued to impress as Koln embark on a charge for promotion.

At 23 years old, the midfielder still has plenty of room to develop as a player, and could thrive in English football if the opportunity for him to play there arises.

A versatile, modern midfielder, Huseinbasic can either play as a number six or a number ten, adding versatility to Wilder's options in the middle of the park. As a great box-to-box midfielder and progressive passer, he also offers similar traits to Hamer.

Aidan Morris

Middlesbrough

An exciting option who is already working towards becoming an excellent midfielder in the EFL is Middlesbrough's Aidan Morris.

The American joined Boro in the summer, but his stats are less than impressive. However, with some work in a better side, the 23-year-old could become a great player in English football.

Similarly to Hamer, Morris is well-known for his high work rates, ball-winning capabilities in the middle of the park, and all-round prowess when it comes to controlling a midfield unit.

Whilst he may not be an overnight success, the American could bring longevity to the Sheffield United midfield, and potentially be sold on for a profit later down the line.
