Guinean international Serhou Guirassy and Burkinabé mainstay Edmond Tapsoba have once again made the short-list for the "African Footballer of the Year Award". The Borussia Dortmund striker and Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender were also nominated last year, when Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen ultimately received the honor.

Technically speaking, a Bundesliga player has won the award not long ago. Not long after transferring to FC Bayern München, Sadio Mané took the crown in the summer of 2022. Mané nevertheless went on to play a disappointing season with the German record champs in which he garnered more controversy than goals.

Guirassy's incredible Bundesliga form has carried over to country. The 20-times-capped international recently scored a hat trick for Stéphane Moulin's "Syli National" during the October international break. Tapsoba remains - as he has since his arrival - an absolute cult figure in German footballing circles and continues to shine for club and country.

The African Football Confederation's annual award ceremony will take place on December 16, 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco this year. Other actors from German speaking regions in line for CAF honors include Swiss head-coach Marcel Koller (the trainer of Egypt's "Al Ahly SC" for "coach of the year") and RB Salzburg Ivorian striker Karim Konaté, in contention for "the best U21 talent" accolade.
