Guillermo Ochoa has claimed that América have proven many doubters wrong with their superb form so far this season.

The Azulcrema finished just three points behind first-placed Cruz Azul in the Guard1anes 2021 table, and are are now waiting patiently to learn who they will face in the quarter-finals of the Liguilla.

However, not many observers would have backed Las Águilas to perform so well given they were under new management, endured a disjointed pre-season, and had to deal with a number of injuries and COVID-19 enforced absences during the campaign.

“Very few people thought that this club could do such a tournament so quickly,” goalkeeper Ochoa said, per TUDN.

“That speaks well of the group, of the commitment and the attitude that everyone has had in the face of adversity.”

But now that Santiago Solari’s side are in the play-offs, América have no time for excuses and are focused on securing silverware.

“The idea and the dream is to lift the title, reach the final, fight for the championship,” Ochoa added.

The 35-year-old missed two games early on after contracting coronavirus, but still managed to appear in the rest of his side’s fixtures, keeping six clean sheets in those 15 appearances.
