Enzo Maresca has got a say in Chelsea’s recruitment but wasn’t fully convinced on signing Joao Felix according to journalist Guillem Balague.

Chelsea were once again busy over the summer as they made a number of signings, the most high profile of which were Felix, Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto.

Under Maresca’s guidance the Blues have made a brilliant start to the season and currently sit second just two points behind leaders Liverpool.

Maresca wasn’t fully convinced on Felix

A lot has been made of Chelsea’s recruitment since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022 and the club have been widely criticised for their model of signing the best young talent from around the world.

The ownership have often been accused of not knowing what their doing, whilst the club’s sporting directors have also come in for criticism.

However, under Maresca it now seems the Chelsea project might finally have lift off and people are starting to change their tune about the club and it’s owners.

Gary Lineker feels we could be reaching a point where people have to admit they were wrong about the ownership.

Former Blue Chris Sutton believes Chelsea’s owners are laughing their heads off after all the criticism that has come their way.

Chelsea’s recruitment structure is well known and a lack of say in transfers is believed to be one of the reasons Mauricio Pochettino left the club.

But Balague has revealed Maresca does have a say in transfers and named the player he wasn’t fully convinced about.

“He [Enzo Maresca] has got a say [in Chelsea’s recruitment],” he told his YouTube channel.

“The only player he perhaps wasn’t so convinced about was João Félix but the club said, ‘please, take him, we know you can make him better’. And you are starting to see the glimpse of what he can do.”

Felix has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks and Chelsea’s young talent are really firing on all cylinders, whilst they have the chance to momentarily go top of the league if they beat Everton on Sunday with Liverpool kicking off after that match finishes.
