Former Serie A and Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is enjoying his time at Tottenham Hotspur so far, making a mark between the sticks and also having grown in personality at the back.

He has impressed with his ball-playing ability and with his shot-stopping and he also played for Italy recently, showing how much he has grown at the London club.

The Italian recently spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about how the season has been for Spurs so far and he revealed that they deserve more points in the campaign.

He said: “From a playing point of view, we expressed a lot and perhaps collected a little less than we deserved. Evidently, if we didn’t collect it, something was missing: there is certainly something to improve, we need to work on it. It’s a so-so start, let’s say, we could have collected more but we look to the future with confidence.”

He also spoke of the club’s recent 4-1 win over West Ham, which was another come back win for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

“When you go behind it’s always difficult and you can suffer a bit of a backlash, but we were good at getting back into the game straight away, putting in the intensity that allowed us to get the result.”

He was also asked about the criticism he faced earlier and how he has dealt with that, saying: “There is always criticism in football, at any level. You have to step away, train and focus only on what you can control.

“My approach to work is daily: I try to fix the limitations that all human beings have, trying to do it with passion and enthusiasm. And then bring it back to the pitch during the games.”

Spurs are playing in the Europa League this season and are third in the table and can be considered one of the candidates to win the tournament. Vicario was asked about how he feels, making his European debut.

“The level of football is high. We want to raise it even higher, because we have all the qualities to be able to stand out in the competition. It’s something we care a lot about, a goal we’ve set in our heads. But one that we have to carry forward from game to game, trying to score as many points as possible to get into the top eight.”

Spurs take on AZ Alkmaar in their next game in the competition and a win could help them take nine points and get them closer to qualifying for the next round.
