Guendouzi and Juric given two-match Serie A bans

Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and Torino coach Ivan Juric were handed two-match Serie A bans, while Rafael Leao, Samuele Ricci and Adam Marusic are among those out for one game.

There was particular interest in the response from the FIGC Disciplinary Commission after a controversial run of fixtures and refereeing decisions.

Most argued that Guendouzi did precious little to be considered a reaction foul against Christian Pulisic, especially as he was being pulled by the Milan player first, but has still been given a two-match ban for that red card.

It was described in the Disciplinary Commission’s report as “slapping an opponent with two hands on the chest and one on the back.”

Adam Marusic and Torino midfielder Ricci were sent off for dissent, but the fact they both receive only a one-game ban suggests what they actually said – as confirmed by the referee’s report – was not particularly outrageous.

Luca Pellegrini was also dismissed in the chaotic Lazio-Milan match for a second bookable offence and he just has a one-game ban.

There are two matches off the touchline for Torino coach Juric, who was spotted making a ‘throat-slitting’ gesture towards Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano.

The Granata tactician was helped by immediately apologising and hugging Italiano on live television during the post-match interviews, but such a gesture had to be condemned with more than a simple one-match ban.

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri sits out a one-game touchline ban for the accumulation of yellow cards.

The following players have one-match bans: Marusic (Lazio), Pellegrini (Lazio), Ebosele (Udinese), Walace (Udinese), Ricci (Torino), Beltran (Fiorentina), Leao (Milan), Florenzi (Milan), Dawidowicz (Verona), Holm (Atalanta), Kristensen (Roma), Vasquez (GenoaJuventus).
