Pep Guardiola has warned rival sides that Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is entering peak form ahead of the season’s run-in.

De Bruyne was named as the PFA Player of the Season last term after a record-equalling campaign, the Belgium international levelling Thierry Henry’s all-time landmark for most assists in a Premier League campaign.

The 29-year-old has impressed again this season but saw his campaign disrupted by a hamstring injury that sidelined him for several weeks, though has shown signs of getting back to his sparkling best in recent performances.

De Bruyne was excellent as City beat Borussia Dortmund 4-2 on aggregate in the Champions League quarter-finals, whilst he produced another stand-out showing in the win at Leicester earlier this month.

The midfielder also committed his long-term future to the Etihad outfit by penning a contract extension this month, the deal that ties him to the club until the summer of 2025.

Ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea, Guardiola believes De Bruyne is beginning to hit his best form as City go in search of history and an unprecedented quadruple this season.

“He’s arriving in a good feeling. he was outstanding against Leicester after the international break, he didn’t play against Leeds to involve everyone but Dortmund good,” Guardiola told his pre-match press conference.

“He is arriving for the next six weeks in the best condition physically and mentally.

“Signing a contract with the club is not just good for him but for the club and everyone. Hopefully he can continue at this level.”
