Pep Guardiola has reiterated his desire for Manchester City to reduce the size of their squad for next season.
The Spaniard claimed last month that he would quit at the Etihad if City do not reduce the number of players in his squad.
City have been active in the transfer window to sign Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and back-up goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, leaving Guardiola with 30 first-team options as things stand.
Kevin De Bruyne and Scott Carson have departed, but Guardiola wants the numbers reduced further. Jack Grealish and James McAtee are among the names linked with exits, while Ilkay Gundogan has attracted interest from Galatasaray.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Al Ain at the Club World Cup, Guardiola called on the club to make sales as he does not want ‘unhappy’ players next season.
“I would love to have the players we have right now all season, I would love it. I don’t have any complaints about the behaviour of the players,” he said.
“But they will be unhappy, they will be sad. They will be disappointed, I don’t want that.
“It’s not a problem for me, I can have more players to select from – but I don’t like having five, six or seven players at home if there’s no injuries.
“I don’t do it for me, it’s for them. That’s why we have to see what happens, we still have a long time until the transfer window is closed and we’ll see what happens.”
