Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he, his staff and the players do not deserve to share the prize money from the Club World Cup even if they win the competition.

City could be rewarded with up to £97m if they win the competition in the USA this summer after FIFA confirmed a considerable prize pot for participating clubs.

But after a season with plenty of challenges which has seen City struggle to defend their Premier League title and potentially miss out on Champions League football, Guardiola says none of that money should go to him and his squad.

“We don’t deserve it this season,” Guardiola responded when asked if he and the squad will receive a bonus for winning the Club World Cup.

“We don’t deserve a bonus this season.

“I don’t know how much if we win but it’s for the club. The manager, backroom staff, players, we don’t deserve it. Not even a watch.”

City have a chance to salvage something from their disappointing season by winning the FA Cup, however.

They take on Bournemouth in the quarter-finals of the competition on Sunday and Guardiola is anticipating an intense encounter, having seen his side beaten at the Vitality Stadium already this season.

“They have a specific way to play and it works,” Guardiola said.

“So far they’ve had a really, really good season with their quality and the players they have, the ideas that they have and football would be boring if all the teams played in the same way in all the leagues.

“We have experience from our defeat (to Bournemouth) in the Premier League this season and we’ll try to reach the semi-final.”

Guardiola also confirmed goalkeeper Ederson is fit and has trained with the team after withdrawing from the Brazil squad over the international break but says he is unsure whether he or Stefan Ortega will be the one to start against Bournemouth.
