Pep Guardiola is hoping his Manchester City side can bounce back following their disappointing defeat to Tottenham Hotspur as they prepare to face Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Saturday’s encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Spurs and Jose Mourinho claim a 2-0 victory over Guardiola’s City side, as the visitors indifferent start to the season continued.

Man City went behind early on as Heung-Min Son slotted through the legs of ‘keeper Ederson, before the away side had a goal controversially ruled out after Gabriel Jesus was deemed to have handled the ball in the build-up to the goal.

Spurs would go on to extend their lead midway through the second-half courtesy of substitute Giovani Lo Celso’s effort, with the result taking the hosts to the top of the table after nine matches, while City find themselves in 13th – albeit with a game in hand.

Guardiola’s men have little time to reflect upon that defeat, however, as they face a tough trip away to Greece on Wednesday, where they will be looking to all but secure qualification to the knockout stages with what would be a fourth successive win in the competition.

City ran out 3-0 winners on matchday three against their Greek opponents and Guardiola believes that their midweek meeting represents the perfect opportunity ‘recover’ their from and shake off the defeat to their Premier League rivals.

”It is important for our qualification and also to recover our feelings,” the Catalan said at his pre-match press conference.

”To be able to win games is important. We can leave this competition until February and focus on other competitions, especially the Premier League.

”At the same time we know how difficult it is and if we are able to get results we travel to Porto and then have Marseille here.

”One step at a time but at the same time to recover, to come back and create good feelings.”
