In the last couple of weeks, Raheem Sterling has been aggressively linked to Barcelona, with the Catalan side hoping to reinforce their attack. While the Englishman has openly said that he will be willing to leave for more minutes, Pep Guardiola seems to be optimistic about his situation.

Speaking to the press as part of his pre-game press conference vs Burnley, Guardiola was asked about Sterling’s situation at the club and a possible exit. He replied, “I didn’t know it. Raheem is our player and hopefully will be an important player for us.”

He continued to speak about Sterling, more specifically about his reduced playing time since the arrival of Jack Grealish.

“I cannot sure them how many minutes every player is going to get. Always they have to speak on the pitch, that is the best moment — not just Raheem, all of them. They have opportunities because they know they are going to play.”

That said, Pep seemed to understand Sterling’s situation and spoke empathetically about any decision he was going to take.

“What I want from Raheem and everyone else is to be satisfied to be at City. If that’s not the case, he has to take the best decision for his family. I was a player, I understand completely, I wanted to play…”

Pep ended the conversation on Sterling when he was asked about the 26-year-old’s contract situation, which is set to expire in June 2023: “I’m not involved in contract deals. The club decides.”
