Guardiola: Arsenal and Arteta should not feel like failures | OneFootball

Pep Guardiola pointed to Arsenal and Mikel Arteta as an example of why not winning a trophy as a manager of a big club does not necessarily mean you should be deemed as a “failure”.

Guardiola’s Manchester City side beat Arsenal to the Premier League title for the second season running following their final day win over West Ham, finishing two points clear of the Gunners.

They take on rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday looking to do the Premier League and FA Cup double for the second year running.

United boss Erik ten Hag is under significant pressure heading into the final following a disappointing second season at the club in which the club finished eighth in the Premier League.

And following the news that the boss of Guardiola’s former club Barcelona, Xavi, had been sacked, the City boss says current managers are at a high risk of losing their jobs if they do not win, regardless of their past achievements.

“In our job you have to win, otherwise you are in a dangerous position,” he said,

“Whatever club, no matter your trajectory, no matter if it is new or old, you have to win and do a good job and be good with many things otherwise it happens unfortunately.

“But people have to understand just one win can win. All the others are failures? I don’t think so, honestly.

“I would not feel like a failure if I did not win the Premier League and I think Arsenal do not feel that because they performed incredibly.

“But our job is what it is. If you don’t accept that, it’s better you don’t do this job.”
