Chivas de Guadalajara dominated theĀ ClĆ”sicoĀ TapatĆo againstĀ Atlas on Saturday at the Akron Stadium.
There was only a point separatingĀ the two Jalisco teams in the Liga MX table prior to the matchday 7 contest but the Sacred Flock defined their superiority on the night.
Alexis Vega opened the scoring in the eighth minute, assisted by winger Carlos Cisneros. The 21-year-old Mexican forward beat goalkeeper José HernÔndez after Cisneros intercepted a pass from Atlas centre back NicolÔs Pareja.
The former Toluca striker grabbed his second goal of the night just 15 minutes later.
IsaÔc Brizuela set up his team-mate with a slicing pass that cut three Atlas players out of the play and Vega beat HernÔndez at the near post in the 23rd minute.
Just after the hour-mark, Chivas put theĀ ClĆ”sicoĀ TapatĆo to bed with a third goal from Vega.
Brizuela played a clever one-two withĀ Dieter Villalpando before serving up a chance that Vega buried for his hat-trick in the 61st minute.
Vega had not yet scored for Chivas prior to this derby after joining the team for aboutĀ ā¬8m from the Red Devils in December 2018.
The recently named Mexico international scored the second hat-trick of the Clausura 2019 and Vegaās three-goal tally ties him with Alan Pulido for the goal-scoring lead on Guadalajara.
Chivas improve to 14 points with the emphatic win and move up to fourth place in the Liga MX table.
Atlas remain on 10 points and will attempt to avoid any lasting impact from losing their local rivals in such fashion.
