There are concerns at Manchester United that should Donny van de Beek be awarded more domestic game-time and the side’s form begin to dip, he could become a scapegoat.

Van de Beek, 23, joined United during last season’s summer transfer window after making the switch from Ajax.

Despite being one of Europe’s most versatile and technically gifted midfielders, van de Beek has struggled to nail down a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

Since his arrival in Manchester, the 23-year-old Dutchman has started just two Premier League matches as fans become more accustom to seeing a preferred midfield of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

As the Red Devils continue in their quest to lift their 21st league title, according to a close United source the club underestimated just how well the Red Devils would do this season.

It has been revealed to Stretty News that there are now growing concerns that should Solskjaer award van de Beek with a run of games in the Premier League and the Red Devils’ form dip, the 23-year-old could become the side’s scapegoat.

Our source has claimed that there are fears the club have taken too long to embed van de Beek and not featuring in his new side’s biggest games is becoming a hard habit to break.

There is a general feeling behind-the-scenes that Europa League and FA Cup matches will be when fans are most likely to see their new Dutch midfielder in action, at least for this season anyway.

That being said, we have also been reminded that van de Beek remains content at the club and there are no immediate plans for the midfielder to depart.
