Grimsby Town have had a very active transfer window, and a strong deadline day addition is set to further add to their activity.

The Mariners will be hoping that their January moves will be enough to keep them away from the League Two relegation spots. They're currently sitting in 20th place, and are seven points clear of Sutton United, who occupy the first relegation place.

With the talent that they have in their squad - the likes of Danny Rose, Abo Eisa, and Anthony Driscoll-Glennon spring to mind - they should feel confident about avoiding the drop. The one type of player they don't have much of is someone that's experienced at a higher level than League Two. That looks like it's about to change.

Denver Hume set to Grimsby Town

Portsmouth full-back Denver Hume looks like he'll be joining Grimsby, as per BBC South reporter Andrew Moon.

The left-back was reportedly in talks for a move to Grimsby yesterday, as per Moon. Hume is an experienced operator in the EFL, having spent the last six seasons playing in either League One or the Championship.

Town have already had a fairly busy window. earlier in the window, and he looks set to be replaced by Cheltenham Town midfielder Curtis Thompson, as per Gloucestershire Live.

As for Pompey, they have signed Carlisle United midfielder Owen Moxon on the final day of the window.

Denver Hume should play higher up the pitch for Grimsby

The 27-year-old can play as both a left-back and left-sided midfielder, which will definitely come in handy for Grimsby. But, one of those positions (left-back) is already occupied by one of the club's best players: Driscoll-Glennon.

In just 15 league games this season, the 24-year-old has provided four assists, which means he's helping someone to score once in just under every four games. His main issue this season was fitness earlier in the season. By the end of October, he had only played six games for the club in all competitions.

These issues with staying active seem to be behind him now, but, even still, Hume is a great option to have just in case. But, if Driscoll-Glennon is fit and on form, he shouldn't be replaced by Hume; they should play in front/behind one another.

The current Portsmouth left-back has always had the ability to get forward from deep. He's contributed a combined nine goals and assists to Pompey and Sunderland over his time in the third tier of English football. Hume has the quality to do some damage at a higher level, so his productivity should only increase in a more advanced position in a lower league.
