Manchester City and one of their highly-rated Academy graduates have received a formal approach from Grimsby Town over a potential season-long loan agreement.

While Etihad Stadium bosses have their focus on potential new recruits into Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City the squad, the importance of ensuring consistent development and the right pathways for the club’s young talent cannot be underestimated.

The most recent campaign saw a number of the City Football Academy’s best prospects head out on loan, while there are a number of agreements still in play ahead of future assessments being made by the Premier League champions.

Yan Couto excelled during his third spell with City Football Group side Girona last season, resulting in his first senior caps for Brazil, whilst Claudio Echeverri has remained on loan with River Plate having agreed a move to the Etihad in January.

The latest rumour to emerge concerns one Manchester City prospect who embarked on a difficult personal campaign with Wycombe Wanderers last season, resulting in an early recall by his parent club due to concerns over game time and treatment.

According to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, Kian Breckin has now received an offer to join League Two side Grimsby Town on loan for the forthcoming campaign, receiving guarantees on regular starting opportunities for the club.

It has further been revealed that both Port Vale and Middlesbrough have also asked to be kept updated by Manchester City about the future of the Academy graduate and his plans ahead of the new season.

Kian Breckin has progressed through Manchester City’s Academy age-groups since first joining the club in 2015, and is described by those within the side as a player comfortable at receiving the ball in tight areas.

Breckin has played a key role in both Manchester City’s 2020/21 and 2021/22 Under-18 Premier League title-winning seasons, before progressing into the Elite Development Squad for the 2022/23 campaign.

After just two appearances for Wycombe during his opportunities to star in League One, the 20-year-old’s next move is crucial for his ongoing development in the game, and Manchester City will be entrusted to make the right call alongside the player and his representatives.
