Barcelona will lock horns with Bayern Munich on Friday night in what is expected to be a highly entertaining clash at Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica. The Catalans had managed to beat Napoli with a 3-1 scoreline last weekend which will keep them in high spirits heading into this upcoming showdown in Portugal.

Quique Setien could choose to stick with his preferred 4-3-3 formation and might be inclined to name an unchanged team versus Hans-Dieter Flick’s men. Both Arturo Vidal and Sergio Busquets should be available for this game after serving out their suspension against Napoli earlier this month.

Defence

Marc Andre ter Stegen should feature in goal for Barca after conceding one goal in his last outing. He will need to be at his best if the Spanish outfit are to secure a clean sheet versus the German champions later this week. Gerard Pique will resume his centre-back partnership with Clement Lenglet at the back as they try to keep Bayern’s Robert Lewandoski quiet throughout the 90 minutes.

Nelson Semedo should get the nod to start at right-back while Jordi Alba focuses on producing another energetic shift as the left-back. Both of them will need to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack as they cannot afford to let the opposition get in behind them out on the wide areas.

Midfield

Setien might opt for the same midfield that started versus Napoli despite having both Vidal and Busquets back for this game. We can expect to see Frenkie de Jong play along with Ivan Rakitic and Sergi Roberto at the centre of the park as they look to dominate possession and create some decent chances to score in the decisive third of the field.

Riqui Puig will have to settle for a spot on the bench as he awaits his opportunity to shine as a second-half substitute if Setien decides to call upon his services.

Attack

Antoine Griezmann will hope to impress on the left flank while Lionel Messi carries most of the goal-scoring burden on the right. The Argentine maestro scored a sensational goal versus Napoli last weekend. Hence, he will be expected to do most of the damage in the final third.

Luis Suarez will lead the charge for the Catalan giants down the middle after his goal-scoring performance in his last outing. Ansu Fati will be available for selection on the bench and could come on to influence the game in the second half if needed.
