Scorers: Griezmann 39', Llorente 50', Koke 90+4
An excellent Antoine Griezmann free-kick helped Atlético de Madrid register their first win of the season as they beat Girona 3-0 in Madrid.
Simeone's side began the game on the front foot, with Julian Alvarez firing wide and Samuel Lino seeing an effort saved.
But they needed a moment of magic from Griezmann to move into the lead. The Frenchman fired in a low free kick from 25 yards after goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga was adjudged to have handled the ball outside the penalty area, for which he was booked.
Just after the half time break, the Rojiblancos doubled their advantage as Griezmann found Marcos Llorente, with the midfielder firing a powerful effort in from the edge of the penalty area.
Simeone introduced Conor Gallagher for his debut in Atletico colours following his move from Chelsea, while Girona turned to their own substitutes bench in a bid to change the result.
But they mustered just a single second half shot on target despite dominating possession, and they were caught out by Koke late on, with the Spanish midfielder adding a third for the hosts when he fired home from six yards out.
It meant Girona left the Wanda Metropolitano with nothing to leave them with just one from their opening two games, while Atletico moved to four points from their two games.
