🇪🇸 Griezmann shines as Atlético close the gap on Real | OneFootball

Atlético de Madrid survived a second-half fightback from Almería to move to within five points of league leaders Real Madrid.

Scorers: Morata 17′, Correa 22′; Baptistão 62′.

Diego Simeone’s side looked like they meant business from the off with Antoine Griezmann having a goal ruled out by VAR for a tight offside decision before Ángel Correa hit the side-netting from close range.

The breakthrough finally came 17 minutes into the game with Griezmann winning the ball high up the pitch before playing in Álvaro Morata to round Luís Maximiano and slide in his 13th goal of the season.

Griezmann was instrumental in the second goal as well, setting Marcos Llorente free down the right-hand side of the box before he cut it back for Correa to tap in.

But the hosts then appeared to take the foot off the gas going into the second half which allowed Gaizka Garitano’s side back into the game.

Léo Baptistão pulled one back for the visitors with a goal against his former club midway through the second half, reacting to the rebound of Alejandro Pozo’s effort to force home beyond Jan Oblak.

Atlético held out to close the gap on Real with a game in hand on their city rivals.
