Yokohama Marinos’ caretaker manager has admitted that the players and personnel at the Japanese club are struggling to come to terms with losing their inspirational manager Ange Postecoglou, who has left the J-League club to become the new manager of Celtic.

Yokohama went down 3-1 in the J League Cup at home to Consadole Sapporo (anyone remember Sapporo beer?) in the first match after Postecoglou’s resignation and caretaker manager Hideki Matsunaga admits that the turmoil at the club is the reason for the poor showing.

“The staff and players have had a very tough time mentally for the past two weeks. The resignation of the manager has made it difficult to adjust.

“There’s little doubt that the loss of Mr Postecoglou has had an impact for sure. I don’t want to make excuses for the defeat, but that’s the way it has been. Everyone will need to raise their heads for our next game against Sagan Tosu next week.”

Yokohama’s Brazilian defender Thiago Martins added his own thoughts on Ange’s exit: “To be absolutely honest, it’s not been easy for us at all,” Daily Record reports.

“Our manager has left and sudden changes like that can make everyone feel upset or unsuccessful. This was the result in the match out there. It’s up to us to recover. At times like this, we have to fight together as a team.”

Yesterday we mentioned the enthusiasm for Postecoglou’s appointment as Celtic manager among all football fans in Australia – not just Celtic Supporters living in the Land of Oz, and featured a podcast that illustrates this point, see below.

You would imagine the football fans in the Japan are also going to have a new found, or perhaps rekindled (after Nakamura) interest in Celtic with Ange Postecoglou moving to Scotland. The other country that will also be picking up on this is Greece. Here’s an article from The Celtic Star from earlier today that has been picked up by the Greek media…
