Grealish: I was in tears - this title means everything | OneFootball

Jack Grealish admitted the reality of winning a first Premier League winners medal with Manchester City had reduced him to tears of joy.

A summer signing from Aston Villa last summer, the England international was an unused substitute against his former team mates on what was an afternoon of unbearable tension in City’s Premier League finale at the Etihad.

When the visitors went 2-0 ahead midway through the second half, it looked as if the title could be about to head Liverpool’s way.

However, a stunning City comeback, which saw us score three goals in five minutes late in the second half, turned the game in its head and delivered a fourth Premier League title in five years.

For Grealish however it was a first taste of Premier League title joy – and he admitted the experience far surpassed anything even he had imagined.

“It’s unbelievable. I ran down the tunnel and cried my eyes out,” Grealish admitted.

“Honestly, I can’t put it into words, I was crying my eyes out. The medal means everything. For me, I’ve never won it so I’m so happy!

“As a kid you want to win the Premier League and to win the Premier League… I can’t put it into words honestly.

“We know how good of a side Villa are and they showed it. With our quality we can beat anyone.”

Grealish also reflected on his first season at the Etihad, the learnings he will take away into the summer and the experience of working under Pep Guardiola.

“In four words, harder than I thought. I’ve enjoyed every minute. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone but honestly this makes up for it,” Grealish added.

“I know that I can (kick-on) and I certainly will. I feel like I played my part, like that goal v West Ham. I can kick on so much more.

“I know myself how much of a role I have to play at this club.

“These guys here have made me feel so welcome. Honestly, the lads here are unbelievable and I love them so much.

"Pep’s a genius. He’s unbelievable football wise. I’d love for you to come in and watch one of his team talks before the game.

“Working with him day to day on the training pitch is unbelievable.

“I’ve got the medal here now so hopefully many more.”
