In-form Everton suffered their first home defeat of the season this afternoon against West Ham United. The game at Goodison Park was deadlocked for more than an hour before Angelo Ogbonna headed home from Jarrod Bowen’s corner. Lack of conversion cost the Toffees as they missed the presence of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the attacking third.

Below are the Everton players rated in their defeat against West Ham United.

Jordan Pickford: 6.5

Made some crucial saves towards the end to keep the comeback hopes alive. Could have done little to stop Ogbonna’s thumping header.

Seamus Coleman: 6.5

The skipper was successful with his dribbling attempts but was not effective enough while making overlapping runs down the right-hand flanks. Did not whip in enough crosses to create chances inside the box.

Ben Godfrey: 7

Spot on with his tackles, won the majority of duels, also made a number of no-nonsense clearances. Was completely beaten by Ogbonna in the air before the goal.

Michael Keane: 7.5

Was not accurate with his passing game out from the back. Did well otherwise in the heart of the backline in terms of making key interceptions, recoveries and tackles.

Lucas Digne: 7

Was lively from the left-hand flank with his crosses and cut insides. Linked up well with Iwobi and Gordon down the wide, however, his final balls could have been a lot better.

Allan: 7

Kept on winning the ball back in the middle of the park. Was combative, made some strong challenges, but his passes were not clinical enough which refrained the hosts from staging swift counter-attacking threats.

Abdoulaye Doucoure: 7.5

Had a couple of attempts wide. Worked hard to dominate the midfield game, tried to offer some creative spark from behind the frontline and his down the middle runs caused problems at times in the Hammers defence.

Andros Townsend: 7

Created a few chances from the right, his one-twos and smart movements opened up space in West Ham’s half. Yet he could not trouble Lukasz Fabianski in goal due to lack of end product.

Demarai Gray: 7.5

Had an effort on target as he continued to impress with his ball-carrying ability, swift runs and intelligence. Lacked enough support in the attacking third from the likes of Iwobi and Rondon.

Alex Iwobi: 6

Missed a golden opportunity, hit it wide and lacked the composure with the ball on his feet. His off the ball work rate was not impressive either and the gaffer took him off for Anthony Gordon minutes after Ogbonna’s strike.

Salomon Rondon: 6

Had the least number of touches of any outfield player who played 90 minutes. Could not utilize his physical presence in and around the box, also failed to beat Fabianski in spite of having a few chances upfront.

Everton Substitutes Vs West Ham United

Anthony Gordon: 6

Could not make much of a difference since replacing Iwobi down the wide.
