Manchester United are in talks with Granada over a loan move for Spanish starlet Alvaro Fernandez, The Athletic reports.

The newly promoted La Liga club want to recruit the 20-year-old full-back on a season-long loan but are also discussing the possibility of adding a purchase option to the deal.

Earlier this summer, reports emerged that Man United would be willing to cut Fernandez loose permanently, and several clubs have been alerted to his situation at Old Trafford.

Premier League duo West Ham United and Burnley are also monitoring Fernandez and could launch a bid to snap him up before the transfer window closes.

Burnley are still on the market for a new left-back after returning Ian Maatsen to Chelsea following the expiration of his loan contract.

The Championship winners were eager to keep the Dutchman, but Chelsea’s reluctance to negotiate a deal has seen them turn to other targets.

Fernandez is on their radar, with manager Vincent Kompany looking to reinforce his squad even further despite already welcoming ten new faces to Turf Moor.

Man United signed Fernandez from Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2020. The youngster penned a four-year deal and was a regular for the under-23 side in his debut campaign.

He was named Man United’s U23 Player of the Year last term before heading out on a loan move to Championship club Preston North End.

He contributed six assists in 42 appearances, and his performances earned him a chance to showcase his talent for Man United under Erik ten Hag’s watchful eye during pre-season.

Despite producing some impressive displays, Fernandez will find it difficult to force his way into the first team, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia already vying for a place in the starting line-up.

Brandon Williams is also ahead of the Spain U19 international, while Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot is versatile enough to feature as a left-back.

Fernandez is the latest Man United youngster to be linked with an exit from the Theatre of Dreams, with Noam Emeran also finalising a permanent move to Dutch top-flight club Groningen.
